I found the company's attorney-led credit repair approach impressive, and it could be well worth the cost if you have complex credit issues.

Credit repair can be a long, tedious, and (dare I say) boring process if you go it alone. It could involve tackling a negative mark that won’t seem to go away or solving more complex issues like an inaccurate payment history or identity theft problems.

For many people, the process of writing and sending dispute letters can not only be confusing, but also time-consuming.

This is why many people turn to popular credit repair companies like Lexington Law for guidance and plenty of help. Lexington Law analyzes your credit reports and works with you to challenge errors and questionable items on your reports.

But many people who are considering outsourcing this task often wonder if credit repair is worth the cost for what they’ll get.

That’s why I’m here to answer those burning questions, and I’ll leave no stone unturned in this in-depth review of Lexington Law. I’ll dive into what services you may need, the cost you can expect, and even a look at the full onboarding process from typing in your name to clicking the “Sign-up” button.

By the end, you’ll know if Lexington Law is the right fit to possibly save you from licking hundreds of envelopes while mailing challenges and follow-ups to all three major credit bureaus.

What to Expect from Lexington Law

Lexington Law is a leading credit repair company that has been around since 2004. Given the company’s name, it’s not surprising that it offers credit repair services with a legal focus.

The company partners with licensed attorneys and skilled paralegals to challenge questionable items on your credit reports. Lexington Law also has a direct digital connection with the major credit bureaus and FICO, allowing it to exchange information much faster than mailing and responding to challenges yourself.

Most credit repair companies still rely on mailed letters or standard online dispute methods. While that doesn’t guarantee faster resolutions, it makes communication and account updates more streamlined.

When you sign up with Lexington Law, you should expect a credit repair process that lasts at least a few months.

An Attorney-Led Experience

Lexington Law’s team has more than 20 years of experience in the legal field and in the credit repair industry. One of its biggest differentiators is its legal foundation and in-depth challenge process.

Instead of relying on templates that all look the same, the team you’ll work with uses licensed attorneys and skilled paralegals who understand federal regulations like the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

These laws clearly spell out the rules companies have to follow when reporting your debt, which includes validating that your debt is accurate if you request the information.

If you need credit repair help and would rather not deal with all the legal terminology and strict compliance process, working with Lexington Law can help level the playing field.

How the Credit Assessment Works

Another feature that stands out is Lexington Law‘s credit assessment. Instead of treating every client the same, this company organizes challenges around the events that caused the credit problems.

For example, someone recovering from identity theft requires a different strategy than someone struggling after divorce, unexpected medical bills, or student loan issues.

The service is free to begin, and Lexington Law starts building your cases within about five to 15 days of you becoming a client.

After a full credit report analysis, Lexington Law creates a plan to target the questionable items that are impacting your credit report. From there, it sends custom communications to challenge those with the major credit bureaus.

If any items need extra follow-ups, Lexington Law’s team helps guide you through the process to keep things moving forward.

And like any good credit repair company, you’ll also get 24/7 creditor monitoring services to help you track your progress and protect your credit over time.

The Challenge Process and Legal Advocacy

Filing a challenge with the credit bureaus is not a one-size-fits-all task, but we’ve already established that Lexington Law takes a customized approach with each client, based on their situation and needs.

Before the challenge process begins, the team starts with a credit report analysis to identify certain legal intervention strategies. Here’s more about how that works.

Credit Report Analysis

This is probably the most important of the initial steps. Early on in the process, Lexington Law will gather your credit reports from all three major credit bureaus and conduct an in-depth analysis.

In addition to catching obvious questionable marks, the team will also look for smaller errors, trends, and assess dates for certain debts and identify any lenders, creditors, or accounts that raise red flags.

These include predatory lenders or abusive debt collectors who may have knowingly or unknowingly allowed certain errors to end up on your credit report.

This is such a crucial part of the process that it could take an individual several days and plenty of things could slip through the cracks. That’s why it can be much more effective to have a professional team take its time assessing your credit reports so that every item is vetted thoroughly.

Legal Intervention

Lexington Law really sets itself apart with its team of licensed attorneys and skilled paralegals who know the industry well. They apply their industry knowledge to help clients address information found on their credit that’s unfair, inaccurate, or that doesn’t comply with strict federal laws.

This is where the real peace of mind comes in. The credit repair process seems much less daunting when you know you have an experienced and dedicated legal team on the case.

Screenshot of Lexington Law successes

Creditors will also likely take your requests more seriously when they see you have a legal team backing your claim.

But Lexington Law doesn’t just do all of that work behind the scenes. It takes the time to explain what’s happening every step of the way, so you know why it’s using a particular strategy.

You’ll also be able to see the current status of the legal interventions and credit repair strategy at any time through your dedicated client dashboard.

Challenge Escalation

Once Lexington Law sends communications to challenge questionable items on your credit reports, the work doesn’t stop there. The team keeps following up to address inaccuracies.

The road to repairing your credit isn’t always straight, and it can be filled with potholes. If a creditor has allowed inaccuracies to remain on your credit report, it’s not surprising that they might need some nudging and pressure to fix the situation.

Lexington Law can conduct multiple rounds of challenges when needed and request additional verification on your behalf while also challenging any incomplete investigations. This is one of the key benefits of hiring a service like this one.

I’ll be honest, if I ever had to be in charge of my own credit repair, I’d probably send a few dispute letters, but that would probably be the end of it. Then, life would set in, and I’d probably get busy or too distracted to follow up and really press creditors to follow the law and fix their mistakes.

I like how Lexington Law helps guide clients from start to finish. And even though results are not guaranteed, at least you’ll know that a thorough effort has been made and that potential problem areas have been addressed.

Breaking Down the Cost

Now, let’s talk about the costs associated with using Lexington Law. The company provides a lot of services, but it’s always important to factor your budget in, since credit repair can take several months or longer.

When I clicked on ‘Pricing’ at the bottom of the website, it actually took me to an FAQ page where they state that the service costs $139.95 per month, and they send an invoice at the end of each service period for any work that’s been completed.

One important thing to note is that military servicemembers get a 50% discount on the first month’s payment.

There’s no initial cost required for Lexington Law to gather your credit information and identify questionable items to build a custom plan for credit repair services.

But, if you choose to move forward after the first five days from signing up, then you’ll receive an invoice each month for completed work.

So, technically, you’re not expected to pay anything until Lexington Law actually starts implementing the credit repair plan and legal strategies to challenge questionable items.

But this process will typically start within the first week or two of signup. If you stick with Lexington Law for six months, for example, you can expect to pay around $840 for their credit repair services.

The core credit repair plan includes:

  • Credit Report Analysis
  • Credit Challenges, Interventions, and Follow-Ups
  • Any Additional Correspondence, Including Challenge Escalation
  • 24/7 Credit Monitoring
  • FICO® Score Tracking
  • Dedicated Mobile App and Online Dashboard

Lexington Law also offers a credit monitoring tier called Lex OnTrack for $24.95 a month, plus tax, for people who may just have a few questionable items on their reports.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that there are no long-term contracts and you can cancel the service with Lexington Law at any time. To cancel, just log in to your portal and confirm you’d like to cancel your case.

A final invoice will be created for any remaining work that has been done since your last billing cycle, then all services will cease, and you won’t be charged again from the date of cancellation.

That’s another peace-of-mind aspect of Lexington Law. You know you won’t be locked into a monthly expense if life happens and you can’t afford it, or if it isn’t producing the results you need.

Account Management and Support Tools

Another aspect of Lexington Law that I appreciate is that it keeps clients informed throughout the challenge process. There’s no “man behind the curtain” pulling levers and providing no transparency as to what’s happening.

Lexington Law makes it easy to chat with someone online or check your dashboard to stay updated on where you are in the process and what steps are being taken on your behalf.

The Mobile App & Dashboard

With the Lexington Law mobile app and online dashboard, you can track your progress in real time and see what’s going on with your customized credit repair plan.

You can see overall account updates along with where each account is in the challenge process. The dashboard will let you know whether Lexington Law is currently analyzing, challenging the item with the credit bureaus, sending communications, or awaiting a response.

It’ll also keep you in the loop on any follow-ups and let you know if you need to do anything to help things move along.

The app also shows you your FICO score and lets you track it alongside other key factors that impact your credit profile (and score).

Support Channels

You can get in touch with the team at Lexington Law in a few ways. Their service hours are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm MST, and the company is generally closed on weekends.

You can chat with an agent online, and phone support is available once you’ve filled out the signup form on the website to become a new client.

Lexington Law actually doesn’t sign new clients up over the phone, so you must complete that part of the process securely online first. But if you have questions or concerns, you can chat via the website with a representative.

If you need any help or assistance once your credit repair plan has started, you can also open a support ticket through the online portal, and the team will promptly get back to you and provide help.

Transparency and Trust

Overall, Lexington Law has a strong brand that’s built on credibility and trust. The company is well known, having been around since 2004.

Lexington Law has represented more than 11 million people since 2004, and it continues to be a popular choice among those seeking credit repair.

Lexington Law also has an above-average score on TrustPilot and a sterling rating with Consumer Affairs.

Lexington Law is highly regarded in reviews on Consumer Affairs.

I like that Lexington Law is upfront about its services and pricing because companies need to be transparent to set realistic expectations with those who are seeking credit repair.

It clearly states on the website that credit repair results are never guaranteed, even despite the best intentions and processes.

Also, knowing the monthly pricing upfront allows you to factor in whether it will work for your budget and decide if you should sign up to start working on your credit.

How to Sign Up (A Step-by-Step Guide)

I wanted to experience the sign-up process firsthand so I could get a better idea of what information the company needs and how long it takes. With credit repair, some parts of the process can seem mysterious.

If you’re considering using Lexington Law, I’ll remove all of the mystery from the sign-up process in this section.

Spoiler Alert: It’s only four steps.

Step 1: Click ‘Sign Up’ On the Homepage

I see the sign-up form on the home page along with the blue ‘Sign Up’ button in the upper right-hand corner.

Screenshot of Lexington Law application step 1

Either one works to get started, so I just entered my full name and email and clicked “Start the Fight”. And this is one time when I believe starting a fight is completely acceptable.

Step 2: Enter Your Personal Details

Next, the form asks for more details like my full address, date of birth, and Social Security number.

Screenshot of Lexington Law application step 2

At this stage, I also agree that Lexington Law can pull my credit reports to assess my situation and see if I’m a good candidate for its service.

Step 3: Agree to Terms and Provide Payment Information

The next step is to agree to the terms of the plan and provide payment information. This is an important step to review the service details provided by Lexington Law, and you should also understand that results aren’t guaranteed.

Screenshot of Lexington Law application step 3

While you do provide payment information upfront, the company won’t charge your card until the full credit report analysis is finished, and it presents you with a plan for credit repair.

Step 4: Credit Report Analysis and Review Dashboard

Since I currently don’t need credit repair services, I decided not to complete the sign-up process with Lexington Law. But after setting up payment and agreeing to the terms, this is the stage where I’d get access to my personalized client dashboard.

That way, I can stay in the loop about what Lexington Law finds on my credit reports and see how the company suggests I proceed.

What Lexington Law Can (And Can’t) Do

Lexington Law can help you identify inaccurate, incomplete, and unverifiable information on your credit reports and then challenge those questionable items with the major credit bureaus.

The company can also help advocate for your legal rights (FCRA rights) when it comes to debt collectors and creditor reporting.

The team focuses on follow-ups with creditors to keep things moving along smoothly. So basically, you can expect high-level credit repair and challenge services when you become a client.

No reputable credit repair company can help you remove accurate negative information from your credit reports, no matter how much they impact your credit scores.

But there are a few things that Lexington Law, or any other credit repair company, can’t do. The company can’t legally remove information from your credit reports that is accurate simply because it’s dragging your score down.

Lexington Law also can’t guarantee results or that you’ll see major changes to your credit situation overnight.

The most important thing to remember is that credit repair takes time, and quality companies like Lexington Law don’t rush through the process or promise certain results. Each case is different, and ultimately, the goal is to correct harmful errors.

Credit Repair vs. DIY Disputes

When it comes to credit repair, I always tell people that they have the right to do it themselves. On the surface, this may sound preferable because it will save money. But it’s important to know what you’re getting into.

First, you’ll need to obtain all your credit reports and analyze them yourself. That includes scanning for errors, omissions, accounts you don’t recognize, and other red flags.

Then, you need to write your own dispute letters and manage responses as you try to work with your creditors and each credit bureau. Each credit bureau has an online portal for disputes, but they may limit the number of characters you can type in to explain the situation.

Do-It-Yourself Credit Repair
Repairing your own credit may cost less money, but you'll need to spend a lot of time filing your own disputeswith the credit bureaus.

If your dispute is complicated or you have a lot of documentation you want to include, mailing a certified letter is the better route. You can include more information and you can see when the bureau accepted your letter, which starts the 30-day window it has to respond.

And that’s just to dispute one item. It may take dozens of letters, follow-ups, and additional documentation to resolve the errors and issues you find.

It can be a very time-consuming process, and there may be a steep learning curve if you need to know how to write the letters properly and review the results of an investigation.

Many people would rather just outsource this entire process to a company like Lexington Law. Hiring a credit repair company doesn’t change your legal rights or guarantee your results.

Rather, it pairs you with professionals who have experience guiding clients through those steps every day.

If you’re busy and know you can’t commit to the hands-on process of mailing in disputes and follow-ups, working with Lexington Law can offer plenty of value.

Pros and Cons

Choosing Lexington Law ultimately comes down to deciding whether you value professional legal assistance for your credit repair enough to justify the monthly cost. While the firm offers several advantages over traditional credit repair companies, it isn’t necessarily the right solution for everyone.

On the plus side, the company operates as a law firm rather than a standard credit repair company. So, you’ll benefit from the help of licensed attorneys and skilled paralegals.

And Lexington Law doesn’t just send generic template letters, its team builds a customized plan based on your personal situation and guides you through the challenges.

It’s also very clear about its services and fees, so you know what to expect, and its mobile app and online dashboard keep you in the loop about your progress.

Pros

  • Legal expertise from licensed attorneys and skilled paralegals
  • Personalized plans and ongoing guidance rather than generic templates
  • Transparency with pricing and your progress dashboard tracking

Cons

  • Monthly membership cost is on the higher end and adds up over time
  • As with any credit repair service, results can take time

One potential drawback is the monthly membership cost. While it is clearly shown upfront, it is on the higher end and can add up over time. And no matter what company you choose, credit repair takes time, and you may not see results right away.

Overall, if you want to go the credit repair route (and you aren’t a lawyer and value your time), I believe Lexington Law can be worth the investment.

Alternatives Worth Considering

If you’re still not sure if Lexington Law is right for you, there are other credit repair options to consider. Here are a couple of other companies to compare with Lexington Law before you decide on your path forward:

  • Free online assessment
  • CreditRepair.com members saw over 8.8 million removals on their credit reports since 2012
  • Free access to your credit report summary
  • Three-step plan for checking, challenging and changing your credit report
  • Online tools to help clients track results
  • See official site, terms, and details.
Our Rating
★★★★★

4.6

CreditRepair.com has been around since 2012 and offers a convenient, mobile app-focused approach to credit repair. It offers three monthly service tiers that work within different budgets. Its higher tiers include credit report audits, challenges sent to all three credit bureaus, score tracking, and credit monitoring tools.

However, CreditRepair.com relies more on efficient automated software and credit counselors rather than an attorney-led model. So, you prefer Lexington Law if your situation involves tricky legal snags, identity theft, or complex collections that could use more hands-on guidance from licensed attorneys and skilled paralegals.

This is another popular company that has been helping consumers since 1989. Sky Blue Credit Repair® keeps things simple with a straightforward flat monthly fee and a 90-day money-back guarantee. Plus, you aren’t billed during the first six days while they review your credit reports.

Its service covers credit report assessments, bureau challenges, regular progress updates, and around-the-clock online portal access. While Sky Blue Credit Repair® is an affordable, no-frills option, it lacks a dedicated legal team, meaning Lexington Law may be a better choice if you value regulatory know-how and customized challenge strategies that fit your circumstances.

Would I Recommend Lexington Law?

Overall, I think Lexington Law distinguishes itself within the credit repair industry.

If you’re looking to recover from identity theft, have multiple reporting errors, medical collections, or other complicated credit situations, and you’d rather have experienced legal professionals guide you through the process, Lexington Law is a great option.

Another thing I really like is how consistently they track the status of the challenges and follow up quickly to keep things moving toward resolution.

While the cost of its premium service is slightly higher than that of some other options, it does offer Lex OnTrack, a lower-cost monitoring plan that can satisfy basic challenge needs.

But leveraging the full team’s knowledge and expertise could be well worth the cost, depending on what shape your credit report is in. Also, you can cancel anytime, so trying the service out for a few months could be a reasonable middle ground.

At the end of the day, credit repair services are not a miracle fix, but Lexington Law has the expertise and persistence to help you start making some headway.
