Money is the Main Cause of Stress in Relationships

Managing a relationship isn’t always easy, and there are many challenges along the way.

One of the biggest challenges couples face is finding a way to manage money together. In fact, a new study from the nonprofit American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) has found money is the leading cause of stress in relationships.

This has become a bigger problem in today’s tough economy.

Money is tighter, which makes it hard for many couples to reach their long-term goals while balancing their spending.

“Money is tighter, which makes it

hard for couples to reach their goals.”

Matt Paradise, the community outreach leader from ACCC, has some advice to help couples in this situation.

Often problems come up because two single individuals come together with separate financial goals, and they don’t work together to create a shared plan.

He said it’s better for couples to address this sooner because it will help them look at their goals in a lighthearted matter.

It’s fun to plan for the future, but it’s not fun to fight about problems.

Paradise also recommends each person keep a small amount of personal spending money. While the bulk of money should be shared, it is nice for each person to be able to spend a little on their own.

If money stresses you out, you are definitely not alone. Hopefully, this advice helps you take a little bit of the pressure off your relationship.
